Originally established in 1997

To work for the preservation and revitalization of the historical heritage found along the ancient mission trails of Baja California.

Native peoples of Baja California and their knowledge of native plants.

Author: Michael Wilken-Robertson

The award-winning book Kumeyaay Ethnobotany: Shared Heritage of the Californias is now available at the museum! (The Spanish version will be available as of August 2025.)

Kumiai Ethnobotany explores the remarkable interdependence between native peoples and endemic plants of the Californias, through an in-depth description of 47 plants and their uses; a lively narrative, and hundreds of beautiful color photographs. It links historical and archaeological records with living cultures and with native plant specialists, who share their ever-relevant wisdom for future generations.
