Campo Alaska

In 1916, during the administration of Colonel Esteban Cantú Jiménez, the national road was built to communicate Mexicali with the entire northern district, said road through the Alaska field center where the then governor of the State Abelardo L. Rodríguez (1923- 1929) had the administration house built.
Another building that was built in this place was the federal barracks (current museum) that housed the troops and the General Staff. The Agustina Ramírez de Rodríguez primary school was also built, where they gave classes to the children of the soldiers and families from the surroundings.
At the initiative of General Abelardo L. Rodríguez, it was decided to move the government offices of Mexicali to this site during the months of June to October to enjoy a more pleasant climate.
After the term of General Rodríguez, he was succeeded in the government by General José María Tapia Freyding, who converted the federal barracks into a madhouse (current museum) better known as the madhouse, while the government house became an antituberculous hospital. from the northern district. Both the asylum and the hospital operated until 1955.
In 2004, the CAREM AC Historical Corridor association, the Rumorosa Highway Trust (FIARUM), the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), undertook the task of rescuing and restoring the main building of the Alaska complex, which today serves as Museum; in which samples of the history of the region are exhibited.
