REGIONAL LIBRARY OF CONSULTATION "CUCHUMA"

The Cuchumá Regional Research Library is located within the Tecate Cultural Center (CECUTEC) and houses a collection of more than 2,600 books, along with journals and maps focused on Baja California and neighboring regions. The library serves the local community as well as national and international researchers from Mexico, the United States, and beyond — all free of charge.

Many local students use the library’s computers and reference materials for their studies. Our collection emphasizes the historical, cultural, and scientific aspects of Baja California.

The library’s main objectives are to:
• Provide access to information and research materials related to Baja California.
• Offer a welcoming space for study and research through both print and digital resources.
• Promote cultural events and training opportunities for individuals and groups interested in the region’s heritage.
• Share CAREM’s activities with the community.
• Encourage public participation, volunteer involvement, and support through book sales.

CAREM is pleased to announce the recent significant expansion of the Cuchumá Regional Research Library’s specialized collection. More than 1,000 books, maps, and other materials have been generously donated by Harry Crosby and Dr. Paul Ganster.
Harry Crosby was a distinguished historian, photographer, and author of numerous works on Baja California. We are honored to develop a dedicated space within the library to house his annotated maps, personal reference materials, research files, and documentation — including an extensive genealogical database of early Baja California residents.
Dr. Paul Ganster, Director Emeritus of San Diego State University’s Institute for Regional Studies of the Californias, is a respected author and social scientist specializing in the Baja California peninsula and the U.S.–Mexico border region. His generous donation of books from his personal collection is a most welcome contribution that enriches our growing resources in the historical, cultural, and scientific study of Baja California.
In addition, Cuchumá now offers a new online catalog, allowing users around the world to explore our collection from any computer or mobile device — no special app required. We are delighted to provide access to our many unique titles to researchers and friends who may not be able to visit the library in person.
